On Saturday, July 5th, during Rugby Club Luxembourg’s End of Year BBQ, Sembeza Africa received a generous donation that will directly support and leave a lasting impact on young female rugby players in Uganda.
Rugby Club Luxembourg and Sembeza Africa come together for a great cause
As part of the Every Bra Counts campaign, the Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) community mobilised to collect sports bras, base layers, shorts, and rugby shirts to support women's rugby in Uganda.
They seem like simple items, don't they?
Well, they're quite the opposite. These items go a long way in supporting and transforming how young female athletes participate in sports, allowing women to play comfortably, stay focused, and safely participate in sport, without being held back by inadequate gear.

The official handover took place during RCL's annual celebration, with Giulia, a passionate advocate for women in sport, presenting the items to Andrew Byekwaso, who represented Sembeza Africa.
The ceremony brought our two organisations together, and highlighted our shared purpose: empowering young female athletes and strengthening our solidarity through sport.
Why this donation matters for Women's Rugby in Uganda
In Uganda, many girls face barriers to continuing sport simply because they lack the appropriate clothing or feel unsafe without the proper gear.
Something as basic as a sports bra can be the difference between a girl staying in sport or leaving it behind. The gear collected by RCL will help fill a significant gap and send a clear message to girls in Uganda: you belong here, and your participation matters.
What happens next?
Andrew Byekwaso will personally carry the donations to Uganda, where they will be distributed across Sembeza Africa’s grassroots programmes.
“These donations are a bridge between continents and communities,” said Andrew. “They show that the rugby family is global, and that people care, not just about the game, but about the girls who play it.”
The items will be delivered to school teams and Ugandan community rugby programmes, and Sembeza Africa will be sharing updates, photos, and stories from the field to show how these donations are making a difference in the lives of these young athletes.

To everyone at Rugby Club Luxembourg: thank you. Your generosity and commitment to empowering women's rugby reminds us of the spirit of Ubuntu: I am because we are.
